What to include in an enquiry

There is no need to send papers at the enquiry stage. A few lines covering the following is usually enough for us to quote and allocate the case:

  • the type of proceedings, the court and the stage reached;
  • the questions you would like the expert to address;
  • where the person to be assessed is held or living;
  • any fixed hearing dates or deadlines;
  • the funding position, and whether prior authority has been sought;
  • whether you would like a particular expert.

We reply within one working day with a quote and the name of the expert who will take the case. That expert then contacts you directly to take things forward.

Timescales

Assessment typically takes place within 4 weeks of instruction, and the report follows typically within 4 weeks of the assessment. Court of Protection cases often move faster, and we can usually respond accordingly. If a hearing date makes the ordinary timescale unworkable, say so in your first message.

Who we can help

We provide expert evidence for legal proceedings, and accept instructions from solicitors and other instructing agencies. We do not provide clinical care through this service and cannot respond to enquiries from patients, defendants or their families. If that applies to you, our FAQs explain what to do instead.
