Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist
Dr Hussain is a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist currently working in a Medium Secure Hospital, in the Mental Illness Pathway. He has extensive experience of working with Personality Disorder patients having worked in a Specialist Personality Disorder Service in both Medium and High Secure Hospitals.
He holds the degrees Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB, University of Warwick 2011), has membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych, 2015) and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Forensic Psychiatry (2022). He is approved by the Secretary of State under Section 12 (2) of the Mental Health Act 1983. In addition to these, he has a BSc in Medical Biochemistry (2007) and a Masters in Medical Ethics and Law (2021)
During that time he has worked across different care settings in both the Secure and non-Secure settings. He has gained wide ranging experience including but not limited to working with the Crisis Home Resolution Treatment Teams, Assertive Outreach Teams and on Psychiatric Intensive Care Wards. His experience has allowed him to assess and treat patients with various categories of mental illness, personality disorders, and neurodevelopmental disorders.
Dr Hussain has trained and worked across the Midlands and has worked with diverse patient populations and has an interest in Trans-cultural Psychiatry. He also takes a keen interest in matters such as capacity, justice, and professional ethical standards.
Dr Hussain has worked as an expert witness since 2021. He has provided written and oral evidence in court proceedings for various cases including violent and sexual offending, proffering opinions and recommendations on issues such as fitness to plead and stand trial, insanity defence, capacity to form intent, and for disposal.
