Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist
Dr Okonkwo is Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist working in a Medium Secure Personality Disorder Service. Prior to this role, he gained experience working in high, medium, low, and community forensic services and a prison in-reach mental health service where he provided care and treatment to patients with various categories of mental illness, personality disorders, and neurodevelopmental disorders.
Dr Okonkwo initially completed postgraduate training and worked as a Consultant General Adult and Addiction Psychiatrist before pursuing a career in forensic psychiatry. Dr Okonkwo has other postgraduate qualifications including an MSc in Drug and Alcohol Studies.
Dr Okonkwo has undertaken training in expert witness skills including the Expert Witness Courses by Bond Solon. Dr Okonkwo has worked as an expert witness since 2021. Dr Okonkwo has provided written and oral evidence to the Parole Board and the Crown Court for various cases including violent and sexual offending, proffering opinions and recommendations on issues such as fitness to plead and stand trial, insanity defence, capacity to form intent, and for disposal.
