Dr Rebecca O’Donovan is a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist in the Women’s Enhanced Medium Secure Service (WEMSS), which is one of three of such services in the country. She has expertise in the assessment and treatment of women who have either a diagnosis of mental illness and or personality disorder, which is often associated with severe or life-threatening self-harm and complex trauma.

Dr O’Donovan has experience of working with both males and females at all levels of security ranging from the High Secure Estate to the community, in addition to prisons. She has been acting as an expert witness since 2011, providing opinions in regard to fitness to plead, diminished responsibility and insanity in Criminal proceedings. Furthermore, she has provided expert witness evidence in Family and Court of Protection proceedings, in addition to Parole Board hearings. Consequently, she has expertise in the assessment, formulation and management of individuals with Mental Illness and Personality Disorder, in addition to those with Brain Injury, Intellectual Disability and Dementia.

Dr O’Donovan is in good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists and is approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act 1983. She has an MSc in Mental Health Studies from the University of Nottingham and has previously undertaken Expert Witness training with both the Royal College of Psychiatrists and Bond Solon.
