Dr John Tully is a Clinical Associate Professor in Forensic Psychiatry and a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist. He completed his medical degree at University of Galway in 2004, before gaining experience in general and emergency medicine between 2005 and 2008. He completed his basic specialist (core) training in psychiatry in Ireland, obtaining the MRCPsych qualification in 2012, and his higher specialist training in London, receiving completion of clinical training (CCT) in forensic psychiatry from the General Medical Council in 2016. Dr Tully is in good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists and has been an Approved Clinician (England) under the Mental Health Act, 1983 (as amended 2007) since March 2018.  

Dr Tully has extensive clinical experience in forensic settings, including in prisons. He has completed many reports for magistrates and crown courts. He is trained in the use of standard violent risk assessment tools including the HCR-20, Stalking Risk Profile, and in the assessment of Psychopathy using the Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R).

During his specialist training in forensic psychiatry, Dr Tully conducted research as an Academic Clinical Fellow and went on to complete a Clinical Research Fellowship at Kings College London, receiving his PhD for a research project in antisocial personality disorder and psychopathy. He has approximately fifty research publications, including on antisocial personality disorder, ADHD, prison psychiatry, and schizophrenia.
