Dr Taylor is an award-winning Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist working as an Expert Witness since 2004. He has extensive Crown Court experience, including homicide, diminished responsibility, contested fitness to plead hearings, mutism, insanity and capacity to form intent. He has also acted as an Expert Witness in the civil courts, in professionals disciplinary hearings and extradition cases as well as in Family Court proceedings and before the First Tier Tribunal (Mental Health) and an Ecclesiastical Court.
He has worked for the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman and the Parole Board and has delivered in-house training to the Mental Health Casework Section of HM Prison and Probation Service at their London HQ.
Dr Taylor is in good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists and is approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act 1983. He holds an LLM in Legal Aspects of Medical Practice from Cardiff University and has previously undertaken Expert Witness training with Bond Solon. He is a member of the Expert Witness Institute and the Medico-Legal Society.
Dr Taylor worked for many years as a visiting psychiatrist providing mental health care at a range of prisons and YOIs including HMP Birmingham, HMP Gartree, HMP Long Lartin and HMYOI Brinsford.
From 2020-2030 he was the Clinical Director at Arnold Lodge, an NHS mental health hospital in Leicester with 100 in-patient beds.
In November 2023 he left the NHS, moving into private clinical practice and to devote more time to work as an expert witness.
